UNM Office of Innovative Scholarly Initiatives

Mission

The mission of the UNM  Innovative Scholarly Initiatives is to optimize the intellectual value, credibility and impact of UNM’s academic output by promoting the protection of author rights, consulting on publishing options emphasizing free and open access and preservation, and providing services for UNM scholars.

UNM Innovative Scholarly Initiatives is a collaborative effort between the following components:

  • University Libraries
  • Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center
  • Law Library
  • University Press

These units have worked in partnership since 2002 to promote innovative scholarship at UNM through activities and initiatives including applied research, teaching, publication or other professional communications, hosting events, and implementing new tools.

What is “Scholarly Communication”?

The term Scholarly Communication is widely used by academic libraries to refer to the process of sharing and publishing research findings, and the many issues surrounding these activities in the 21st century. As stated in our mission, UNM’s Innovative Scholarly Initiatives focus on

  • Promoting the protection of author rights
  • Consulting with UNM scholars on publishing options that emphasize free and open access and preservation
  • Providing like services to the UNM community
